  • Kilcavan Graveyard

This report has been compiled by archaeologists David McIlreavy and Barry Lacey to provide an overview of the historical and archaeological significance of the older section of Kilcavan Graveyard, Co. Wexford. Commissioned by the Tara Hill Community Development Association and funded through the Heritage Council’s Community Grants Scheme, the report builds upon two previous in-person events. The first event provided training on transcribing and recording memorials within Kilcavan Graveyard, as well as guidance on best practices for the care and preservation of historic graveyards. The second event focused on teaching participants how to conduct genealogical research, using Kilcavan Graveyard as a case study. Furthermore, as part of Heritage Week, the findings and lessons from these sessions were shared through a well-attended guided tour of the graveyard. Recommendations towards the enhancement of the heritage assets of Kilcavan graveyard are included at the end of this report.

  • Heritage Assessment of Fisherman's Way Walking Trail

This report details the results of a Historical and Archaeological Resource Assessment of the ‘Fisherman’s Way’ walking trail undertaken on behalf of the Tara Hill Community Development Association (THCDA). Archaeologists David McIlreavy and Barry lacey were commissioned to undertake the study during the summer and autumn of 2024 with funding secured through the Heritage Council’s Community Grants Scheme (Reference No. CH1996). The aim of the assessment was to identify, map and survey the historical/archaeological resources along the Fisherman's Way Walking Trail and make recommendations to enhance the heritage resource along the route. Heritage can contribute greatly to a sense of place with the local community and a wider audience and the outcomes of this assessment will greatly enhance and contribute to the heritage resource along the ‘Fisherman’s Way’ walking trail.
